Get started as a teacher

Sign in to SchoolDay, open the apps assigned to your classes, and give your students ID cards they can sign in with.

Sign in to SchoolDay, open the apps assigned to your classes, and give your students ID cards they can sign in with. You'll need about 10 minutes.

What you'll set up

When you're done, you'll be able to:

  • Sign in to the SchoolDay portal with your school account.
  • Open the apps assigned to your classes and save your own bookmarks.
  • Print QR code ID cards so younger students can sign in without typing a password.

New to the platform? Get started with SchoolDay explains what it does, and Feature highlights covers what's included.

Before you begin

Make sure you have the following:

  • A synced roster. Your district activates SchoolDay and syncs your school's data. Your Teacher role comes from that sync — you don't request it. See Roles and permissions.
  • A school sign-in account, such as Google, Microsoft Entra ID (Office 365), or ADFS. Teachers sign in through single sign-on only. A SchoolDay email and password isn't an option for teachers. See Sign In and Supported identity providers.
  • A device with a camera, if you plan to use ID cards or Face ID.

Note

If you don't have an account yet, contact your school district's IT admin. Support can't create teacher accounts for you.

To issue ID cards, your Primary District Admin needs to turn on the ID Card login method and select your school first. See Login with ID Card (QR Code/Badge).

Step 1: Sign in to SchoolDay

  1. Go to sso.gg4l.com.
  2. Enter your organization name, either your school or your district, and continue.
  3. Select Sign in with, and then choose your district's identity provider.
  4. Select your account and enter your credentials.

If your district uses multifactor authentication (MFA), you're prompted for a second factor after this step. Face ID is one option — see Sign in with Face ID and Activate Passport Login for Students and Teachers (MFA).

Depending on how your district set things up, you might sign in with Google, Azure AD or Office 365, or ADFS.

You should see: The SchoolDay main page, with your name and organization in the toolbar. Your assigned apps appear as tiles in the Resources area below it.

Tip: Select the question mark icon in the toolbar for an in-product tour, or see SchoolDay Platform Interface for end-users.

Step 2: Open an app and add a bookmark

The Resources area holds two kinds of tiles: resources your district admin assigned to you, and bookmarks you add yourself.

  1. Select any app tile in the Resources area. SchoolDay signs you in for you.
  2. If it's a password vault app, enter your credentials for that website once. SchoolDay saves them for next time.
  3. To add your own link, select the plus icon at the lower right of the Resources area.
  4. In Create Bookmark, enter a name and the link, and then save.

You should see: Your app opens in a new tab without a second sign-in, and your bookmark appears alongside your other tiles.

Tip: If an app no longer signs you in, its saved password may have changed. Reset the saved credentials by dragging the app tile onto Drop here, or open the menu, select Reset Application, choose the app, and select OK. The next time you open the app, enter your updated credentials.

Step 3: Issue ID cards to your students

Do this step only if your district turned on ID card login. When it's on, the ID Cards Administrative tool appears on your main page and lists the classes and students linked to you.

  1. Open the ID Cards Administrative tool.
  2. Select the tab for the group you want: Grades, Classes, or Students.
  3. Select the three dots next to a class or student, and then select Activate. For several students at once, select their records and then select Activate Selected.
  4. Choose an expiration date for the QR code, select Reset, and confirm.
  5. A PDF of the ID cards downloads to your Downloads folder.
  6. Print the cards and hand them out.

You should see: Students can select Sign in with ID Card on the sign-in page and hold their card up to the webcam instead of typing a password.

Important: A card can't be reused after it's replaced. If a student loses a card, issue a new one.

To replace a lost card, select Reset for that student. To keep spares on hand, use Lost ID Cards Replacement to print unassigned cards, and then use Assign to scan one to a student. Full details are in ID Cards Management for Teachers.

Step 4: Verify your setup

Check each of the following:

  1. You can sign in at sso.gg4l.com and see your name and school in the toolbar.
  2. At least one app tile opens without asking you to sign in again.
  3. A bookmark you created is still there after you reload the page.
  4. If you use ID cards, a test card scans successfully on a device with a webcam.

If something doesn't check out, see the next section.

Troubleshooting

Symptom

Cause

What to do

Your school isn't found on the sign-in page

Your district isn't registered, or the name is entered differently

Try your district name instead of your school name. If that doesn't work, contact your district IT admin. See Sign In.

You sign in, but no apps appear

No resources are assigned to your classes yet

Ask your District Admin to assign SSO applications to your classes. See Change SSO application assignments.

The ID Cards Administrative tool is missing

ID card login isn't turned on for your school

Ask your Primary District Admin to add the ID Card login method and select your school. See Login with ID Card (QR Code/Badge).

You can't see the AppStore

AppStore permissions aren't granted

Ask your Primary District Admin to add an AppStore permission with Activate SSO for class for you or for the Staff role at your school. See Assign AppStore Permissions.

A student's role is wrong or missing

Roles come from the roster sync, not from manual assignment

Report it to your District Admin so they can fix the source data and run the sync again. See Roles and permissions.

A class roster looks wrong

The class data came from your SIS or CSV import

Report it to your District Admin.

Face ID doesn't recognize a face

Lighting, a hat or glasses, a change in appearance, or a dirty lens

Move to better light, remove hats and glasses, clean the camera lens, and try again. See Sign in with Face ID.

An app opens but shows an error from the app itself

The SSO connection or the app assignment needs attention

Ask your District Admin to test it. See Troubleshoot SSO issues and Test an SSO application.
