Get started as a parent/guardian (Parent Portal)
Accept your school's invitation, set up your account, and reach your child's learning apps from one page.
Accept your school's invitation, set up your account, and reach your child's learning apps from one page. You'll need about 10 minutes.
What you'll set up
The Parent Portal is one place to reach the learning apps and systems your child's school uses. You sign in once, and then you can open any approved app without signing in again.
When you're done, you'll have:
- A Parent Portal account.
- Access to your child's apps from a single dashboard.
For background on what the portal offers, see What is the SchoolDay Parent Portal?
Before you begin
Make sure you have the following:
- An invitation from your child's school. A District or School Admin sends it. If you haven't received one, contact the school and ask to be invited.
- A valid email address or phone number on file with the school. Verification codes go there.
Note
If your children attend different schools in the same district, you receive a separate invitation for each child.
Your district decides whether the Parent Portal is available and which sign-in methods it offers. See Activate Parent Portal for Your Organization if you'd like to point your school's admin to the setup steps.
Step 1: Choose how you want to sign in
Pick a method now. It determines whether you need Step 2.
If you don't see the option you expected, contact your school. All three methods are described in Sign in to Parent Portal.
Step 2: Create your account
Skip this step if you're signing in with Google or Facebook.
- Open the invitation email from your school, and then select the link.
- Choose how you want to verify your identity: phone or email.
- Enter the verification code you receive, and then select Submit.
- Enter the username and password you want, and then select Submit.
- Select Continue.
Important: The invitation link is valid for 30 days, and the verification code is valid for 15 minutes. If either expires, request a new one.
You should see: Your account is created, and you're taken to the sign-in page. Full details are in Create your Parent Portal account.
Step 3: Sign in
- Go to sso.gg4l.com.
- Select Sign in as Parent at the bottom of the page.
- Search for your child's school or district, and then select it.
- Sign in with the method you chose:
- Google: select the Google icon, and then enter your email and password. If you're already signed in to Google, you skip this.
- Facebook: select the Facebook icon, and then follow the prompts from Facebook.
- Username and password: enter your username and password, and then select Sign in.
Tip: SchoolDay remembers your school or district, so you won't have to search for it next time.
You should see: The Parent Portal Dashboard. Your child's apps appear as tiles in the middle of the page. Select one and it opens already signed in. Your account settings are in the left navigation pane.
Note
Your school decides which apps appear here. To ask for a different one, contact the school.
Tip: For a tour of the dashboard, see Navigate the Parent Portal Dashboard.
Step 4: Verify your setup
Check each of the following:
- The dashboard opens after you sign in and shows your name.
- At least one app tile opens without asking you to sign in again.
- You can sign out and sign back in without repeating the invitation steps.
If you have more than one child, repeat Steps 2 and 3 with each invitation you received.
