Get started as a student

Sign in to SchoolDay once, and then open all your school apps without typing another password.

Sign in to SchoolDay once, and then open all your school apps without typing another password. This takes about five minutes.

What you'll set up

When you're done, you'll be able to:

  • Sign in to SchoolDay with your school account, your ID card, or your face.
  • Open your class apps from one page.
  • Save your own links as bookmarks.

Before you begin

Make sure you have the following:

  • A SchoolDay account. Your school creates it for you from its records. You don't sign up yourself.
  • A way to sign in. This is either your school account, such as Google or Microsoft, or a printed ID card with a QR code that your teacher gave you.
  • A camera on your device, if you sign in with an ID card or Face ID.

Note

Students sign in with a school account, not with a separate SchoolDay email and password. If you can't sign in at all, ask your teacher or your school's IT team. See Sign In.

For information about your access in SchoolDay, see   Roles and permissions.

Step 1: Open the sign-in page

  1. Go to sso.gg4l.com.
  2. Enter your school or district name, and then select it from the list.

Tip: SchoolDay remembers your school, so you won't have to search for it next time.

Step 2: Sign in

Use the method your school gave you.

Sign in with your school account

  1. Select Sign in with.
  2. Choose your school account, and then enter your username and password.

Your school picks which account type you use. For details, see Login with Google or Login with Azure AD/Office 365.

Sign in with an ID card

  1. Select Sign in with ID Card.
  2. If your browser asks for permission, allow it to use the camera.
  3. Hold the QR code on your card close to the camera. It scans right away.

Learn more in Login with ID Card (QR Code/Badge).

Sign in with Face ID

Face ID is a second step, not a first one, and your school has to turn it on.

  1. Sign in with your usual method first.
  2. Position your face inside the frame, and then move your head slowly to complete the circle.
  3. When the screen says you're all set, select Done.

Next time, your face signs you in. See Sign in with Face ID.

You should see: The SchoolDay main page, with your name and school at the top.

Step 3: Open your apps

  1. Look at the Resources area in the middle of the page. Each tile is an app or a link your school gave you.
  2. Select a tile. The app opens in a new tab and signs you in for you.
  3. For some apps, you enter your username and password for that website the first time only. SchoolDay remembers it after that.

For a tour of the whole page, see SchoolDay Platform Interface for end-users.

Step 4: Add your own bookmark

  1. Select the plus icon at the lower right of the Resources area.
  2. In Create Bookmark, enter a name and paste the link.
  3. Save it. Your bookmark appears with your other tiles.

More options are in Manage Personal Bookmarks.

Step 5: Verify your setup

Check each of the following:

  1. Your name and school appear at the top of the page.
  2. One of your app tiles opens without asking you to sign in again.
  3. A bookmark you added is still there after you reload the page.

Step 6: Sign out

Do this every time you use a shared or school device.

  • Select the gear icon at the upper right, and then select Sign Out.
  • Or open the burger menu at the upper left, and then select the sign-out option.

 Troubleshooting

Symptom

Cause

What to do

Your school isn't in the list

The name is entered differently, or your school isn't set up yet

Try your district name instead of your school name, and then ask your teacher.

The camera doesn't turn on for your ID card

The browser blocked camera access

Allow camera access when the browser asks, and then reload the page. See Login with ID Card (QR Code/Badge).

Your ID card doesn't scan

The card expired, or it was replaced

Ask your teacher for a new card. Old cards can't be reused.

Your face isn't recognized

Poor lighting, a hat or glasses, a change in your appearance, or a dirty camera lens

Move to better light, take off hats and glasses, wipe the lens, and try again. See Sign in with Face ID.

You sign in, but no apps appear

Your teacher hasn't assigned apps yet

Ask your teacher.

An app keeps asking for a password

The saved password is out of date

Ask your teacher to reset the application. See How can I reset SSO (Password Vault) applications?.

You forgot your password

It's your school account password, not a SchoolDay one

Ask your teacher or your school's IT team. SchoolDay can't reset it for you.

An app opens but shows an error

The app connection needs attention

Tell your teacher, who can report it. See Troubleshoot SSO issues.
