SchoolDay ID cards are deactivated in two ways: by resetting the card (which replaces it with a new one and immediately deprecates the old card), or by letting the card reach its expiration date. Once a card is deprecated or expired, it can no longer be used to sign in.

Security note

Each ID card can be used only once. If a card is lost or compromised, reset it immediately to prevent unauthorized access.

Requirements

Method 1: Reset the card (immediate)

Resetting a card generates a new QR code for the student and immediately deprecates the old one. Use this when a card is lost or you need to invalidate it right away.

Reset a single student’s card

  1. From the SchoolDay main page, open the ID Card Administration tool.
  2. Navigate to the relevant school and locate the student.
  3. Click the three-dot menu next to the student’s name and select Reset.
  4. Choose a new expiration date and click Reset. Confirm your selection.

Result: A PDF with the new ID card downloads to your Downloads folder. The old card is deprecated immediately. Print and distribute the new card to the student.

Reset multiple students’ cards

  1. In the ID Card Administration tool, navigate to the relevant school.
  2. Select the records of the students whose cards you want to reset.
  3. Click Reset Selected.
  4. Choose a new expiration date and click Reset. Confirm your selection.

Result: New ID cards download as a single PDF. All selected students’ previous cards are deprecated.

Method 2: Edit the expiration date

If you want a card to stop working at a specific date without generating a new one — for example, at the end of a term — update the expiration date.

Update for a single student

  1. In the ID Card Administration tool, locate the student.
  2. Click the three-dot menu and select Edit Expiration Date.
  3. Edit Expiration Date
  4. Choose the new expiration date and click Save.

Update for multiple students

  1. Select the student records you want to update.
  2. Click Edit Expiration Date of Selected.
  3. Choose the new expiration date and click Save

Result: The card remains valid until the new expiration date. After that date, the card cannot be used to sign in.
