Issue a temporary ID card
Generate unassigned extra cards to keep as printed backups for students who lose their ID card.
In this article
Extra cards are unassigned QR code cards that are not linked to any student when printed. You generate and print them in advance, then keep them on hand. When a student loses their card, you can assign an extra card to them immediately — without needing to print a new one during a lesson.
Note
An extra card has no value until it is assigned to a student. It cannot be used to sign in until the assignment step is complete.
Requirements
- Primary District Admin or Teacher permissions.
- ID card login enabled for your district and the relevant school.
Generate extra cards
- From the SchoolDay main page, open the ID Card Administration tool.
- Navigate to the relevant school.
- Click Lost ID Cards Replacement in the top right corner.

- Enter the number of extra cards you want to generate, then click Download.

Result: A PDF containing the specified number of unassigned extra cards downloads immediately to your Downloads folder. Print the cards and store them in a secure, accessible location.
After printing extra cards
- Keep printed extra cards in a physically secure location — do not leave them accessible to students.
- When a student needs a replacement, use Assign an ID card to a student to link the extra card to their account.
- Each extra card can only be assigned to one student. Once assigned, it cannot be reassigned.
