Troubleshooting errors and skipped records

Fix missing or invalid SIS data that is causing records to be blocked or flagged in your vendor apps

When SchoolDay flags a record as Skipped or Error, it means a required or expected field is missing or invalid in your SIS. Skipped records are not sent to the vendor. Error records are sent but incomplete. Both require a fix in the SIS — SchoolDay picks up the changes on the next sync.

To learn more abour each issue type and its impact on data delivery, see Data quality overview.

Requirements

  • District Admin or Primary District Admin role
  • Access to your SIS to update records, or a contact at your SIS team

Troubleshoot errors and skipped records

Skipped records are blocked from reaching the vendor. Fix these first.

Error records reach the vendor but are missing a field the vendor may need. Whether to fix them depends on how important the missing field is to the vendor's use case.

  1. In the Connect, go to import app > Data Quality tab. Or go to Data Quality section > App Rules tab.
  2. Filter by Skipped to see only blocked records.
  3. Review each flagged record and note the missing field.
  4. Check the vendor's data requirements to determine whether the field is critical. See View data requirements for a vendor app.
  5. Go to your SIS and add the missing data for each affected record.
  6. Return to SchoolDay and go to the application.
  7. Click Run to trigger an immediate sync, or wait for the next scheduled sync.
  8. Go back to the App Rules tab and confirm the Skipped count has decreased.

Important: If you don't manage the SIS directly, export the issue list and share it with your SIS administrator. Go to the App Rules tab and click Download to export as a CSV file.

Adjust data requirements

If records are being flagged for a field that your organization does not use, review whether the data requirement is configured correctly for your SIS.

  • If a field is flagged as Skipped but the field is not required for your district, change the requirement from Required to Report if missing or remove it.
  • If a field is flagged as Error but you don't need to track it, remove the requirement entirely.

For instructions, see Set data requirements for your SIS.

Verify the fix

After the sync completes:

  1. Click Data Quality in the left navigation pane.
  2. Go to the App Rules tab.
  3. Confirm the issue count for the affected app has decreased.
  4. Search for the specific records you fixed and confirm they no longer appear in the issue list.
  5. Check the data quality score on the application tile. A score of 0 means no issues remain.
