Teacher Guide: Request Application Approval

Before using a new app or online tool with students, check whether it has been approved for district use. Apps that aren’t listed must go through a security and privacy review before they can be used in the classroom.

Submitting an approval request grants permission to use the application if it passes review. It isn’t a purchase request and doesn’t start the buying process.

Track an app’s vetting status

You can view the vetting status to understand whether an app is ready for classroom use.

Common statuses:

  • Approved: The app meets district requirements and can be used with students.
  • In Review: The app is currently being evaluated. Don’t use it with students yet.
  • Rejected: The app doesn’t meet district requirements and can’t be used.
  • N/A: The app hasn’t been reviewed.

Always confirm the status before using an app in class. If an app isn’t listed, submit a request so the district can review it.

Request application approval

If an app isn’t listed or isn’t approved, you must request approval before using it.

    1. Go to the Applications list in PGC.
    2. Search for the application you want to use.
    3. Start a request using one of the following options:
      • Select Request Application Approval in the top-right corner.
      • Find the app in the table and select Request Approval next to it.
    4. Complete the request form:
      pgc-application-approval-request
      • Requested Application Name: Enter the official app name.
      • Requested Application URL: Provide the vendor or sign-in URL.
      • Comments: Add context such as intended use, grade level, or data considerations.
    5. Submit the request.

This starts a security and privacy review by the district. Also, the application will be to the vetting queue and marked In review until a decision is made. Approved apps will be added to the district catalog for teacher use. If an app isn’t approved, you may be asked to choose an alternative tool that meets district requirements.
