Sign in with an ID card

Students and staff whose district issues SchoolDay ID cards can sign in by presenting the card or scanning its QR code instead of typing anything.

If your district issues SchoolDay ID cards, you can sign in by presenting your card instead of typing a username and password. Your district decides whether ID card sign-in is available and who gets a card.

Requirements

  • Your district has enabled ID card login. Admins do this per organization, see Enable ID card login for your organization.
  • An active card assigned to you. A card that has been deactivated or has expired will not work.
  • A device with a webcam, badge reader, or camera capable of scanning QR codes. 
  • You must grant camera permission when prompted.

Sign in

  1. Go to your district's SchoolDay sign-in page.
  2.  Click Sign in with ID Card.

  3. (Optional) If you are denied camera permissions, grant access to the camera on your device to scan the unique QR code on your ID card. Acsess Camera
  4. Hold your physical ID card so your device’s camera is as close as possible to its QR code. 
  5. You reach your SchoolDay landing page.

If you do not have your card

Ask your teacher or a staff member for a temporary card. Temporary cards work immediately and take only a few minutes to issue.

Verify

  1. You reach your SchoolDay landing page rather than returning to the sign-in page.
  2. The apps your district assigned to you are listed.

Troubleshooting

Symptom

Likely cause

The card is not accepted

It has been deactivated or has expired

Ask your school admin to check it in Administration > ID Card Administration

The card is accepted but signs in the wrong person

The card is assigned to another user

Report it to your school admin immediately and stop using the card

The QR code will not scan

Damaged print, glare, or a dirty camera lens

Clean the lens, avoid direct light, and ask for a replacement card if the print is worn

The ID card option is not on the sign-in page

Your district has not enabled ID card login

Ask your school admin

A new student's card does not work

The card has been created but not assigned or activated

Admins: see Create and activate an ID card and Assign an ID card to a student

The card worked yesterday and not today

The card may have been deactivated, or the student's roster record changed

Ask your school admin to check both
