[Data Quality](https://help.schoolday.com/knowledge/data-management-connect?hsLang=en#data-quality) September 2, 2026 # Data quality overview ## Monitor roster data accuracy across your vendor apps and catch issues before they affect data delivery SchoolDay automatically checks the quality of roster data synced from your SIS to each vendor application. When issues are found — missing fields, incompatible values, or duplicate records — SchoolDay flags them so you can act before data fails to reach a vendor. ### Requirements - Primary District Admin permissions ### How it works SchoolDay evaluates data at the point of sync, comparing each record against a set of rules called *data requirements*. These rules define what fields are expected and what happens when data is missing or invalid. Data moves through three stages. Issues can appear at any stage: | **Stage** | **What happens** | | --- | --- | | **SIS (Import app)** | Your SIS sends roster data to SchoolDay. Duplicates are detected here. | | **SchoolDay** | SchoolDay validates the data against your rules and the vendor's requirements. | | **Vendor app (Export app)** | Clean records are sent to the vendor. Records with Skipped issues are blocked here. | SchoolDay checks data at each stage: - **My Rules**: summarizes all duplicates detected per entity in data coming in from your SIS. - **App Rules**: checks data going out to the vendor against the vendor's requirements. Each application displays a **data quality score** — the total number of records that did not pass data quality checks. A score of **0** means no issues were detected. Understanding each type helps you prioritize which ones to fix first. | **Issue type** | **Impact on data delivery** | **Fix priority** | | --- | --- | --- | | **Skipped** | Record is **not sent** to the vendor app | Required | | **Error** | Record **is sent** to the vendor app, but a field is missing or invalid | Optional | | **Duplicate** | Record appears multiple times in the SIS; SchoolDay cannot merge them automatically | Required | **Important:** Skipped records do not reach the vendor. If students or staff are missing in a vendor app, check for Skipped issues first. It has four tabs: **My Rules**, **App Rules**, **Duplicates**, and **Privacy Shield**. Each tab covers a different category of issues. Most fixes require updating your SIS; SchoolDay will apply them automatically on the next sync. 1. After a sync completes, open **Data Quality** in the sidebar. 2. Check the **My Rules** and **App Rules** tabs for new issues. 3. For **Skipped** issues — go to your SIS and add the missing required data. 4. For **Error** issues — review whether the missing field affects the vendor's use case. Update in your SIS if needed. 5. For **Duplicates** — go to the **Duplicates** tab and resolve conflicts. 6. Wait for the next scheduled sync. SchoolDay will capture any SIS changes automatically. 7. Verify that issue counts have decreased after the sync. If you don't manage the SIS directly, download the issue report and share it with your SIS administrator.
